Wallace, Nancy Elizabeth with Linda Friedlaender. Look! Look! Look! Tarrytown, NY: Marshall Cavendish, 2006. ISBN 0-7614-5282-6. $16.95.

Look! Look! Look! succeeds on many levels, as a delightful When-the-Big-People-Are-Gone fantasy and as a fine introduction to aesthetics. Some mice take an art postcard addressed to the homeowners down into their part of the house while the owners are gone. They admire it in ways most readers will never have thought of on their own, demonstrating both techniques of appreciation as well as their delight in what they see. The mice are lovely little aesthetes, and are themselves as characters brilliantly made up of collage. The authors/artists display graphic, color, and design principles effortlessly as the mice lead us to Look! Look! Look!

A. Allison, June 2006
