Raczka, Bob. No One Saw: Ordinary Things through the Eyes of an Artist. Minneapolis: First Avenue ( www.lernerbooks.com ), 2002. ISBN 0-7613-1648-5. $9.95.

A very reasonable price for an outstanding book of art, artfully put together by Raczka. Its refrain of "No one saw a." is followed in each case by a noun, like "City," and an artist's name. Opposite page is the painting alluded to. No one indeed saw fish like Klee, or Sunday like Seurat, or hay like Monet, or squares like Mondrian. This technique of juxtaposing the masterpiece and calling attention to the artist as perceiver and transformer of the ordinary on the facing page is quite moving, actually, and makes a fine general interest as well as introductory book of art.

A. Allison, June 2006
