Lehn, Barbara. What Is a Scientist? Photos by Carol Krauss. Minneapolis : First Avenue , 1998. ISBN 0-7613-1298-6. $7.95.

Bright, cheerful pictures of children doing science enliven this thoughtfully-conceived book. It defines what a scientist is by demonstrating and personalizing what he/she does. In addition, it pictures several experiments and the careful recording of the observation each child makes going through the steps of scientific inquiry. It's a good career-starter.

A. Allison, June 2006
