Seurat, Georges./Art Institute of Chicago . A Sunday on La Grande Jatte Tunnel Book. Chicago : Art Institute of Chicago , 2006. ISBN 0-9754150-0-X. $9.95.

Seurat's famous "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte" is amazingly transformed into a three-dimensional experience through the mechanics of the "tunnel book." "Optical experiments" that began in the 1400's, these accordion-like separations present pictures or even stories with great depth when viewers open the book flat and (gently) pull the contents open. They then look down into the tiny masterpiece, apprehending it in a totally new way. The painting suddenly reveals its many layers and visual surprises. It's a captivating experience that can lead to many family conversations

While enjoying the intricate design of Seurat's beautiful painting, children enter into art in a way that makes them want to see more.

A. Allison, October 2006
