Rockwell, Lizzy. The Busy Body Book. A Kid’s Guide to Fitness. New York: Crown Publishers, 2004. $15.95. ISBN 0-375-82203-8. 29 pp.
This is a picture book that encourages physical activity in children, describing different activities from stretching to swimming that help the body remain healthy. It also shows and explains the uses of our skeleton, muscles, brain, nerves, lungs, heart, blood vessels, stomach, and intestines. The Busy Body Book can be easily understood by children of all ages. Lizzy Rockwell does an excellent job of showing how all parts of the body work and how the reader can remain healthy by exercise and diet.
The illustrations show children engaged in different activities throughout the book. These illustrations show the reader that exercise can be fun and are not limited to traditional exercising such as running or swimming. My favorite illustrations are towards the back pages of the book which shows children involved in various activities. Out of the forty activities shown I am sure the reader will find one they are interested in.
