Rawson, Katherine. If You Were a Parrot. Illus. Sherry Rogers. Mt. Pleasant, NC: Sylvan Dell, 2006. ISBN 0-9764943-9-6. $15.95.

This is a book kids can really get into, a comic look at what being a parrot would do to you. You'd have four toes, for example, and two of them would point backwards, so you could grasp and climb all over everything. You'd like nuts and fruit and especially broccoli. You'd love a bath and a good preening. In remarkably imaginative drawings, the day of a parrot is described, with many different children dressed up like parrots and parrots themselves depicting the scenes. Full of fun and creativity, this is a fine book for Story Hour at the library, at school, or at home.

A. Allison, October 2006
